The 2000s fall-themed, drama-filled TV series Gilmore Girls is making a comeback on Netflix with Gen Z as the target audience. This may come as a surprise to some, as this show was something the mothers of Gen Z grew up watching.
Now, the love triangles and aesthetics of this show are trending on TikTok, with the Gilmore Girls hashtag reaching 13.2 billion views.
With popular shows like “New Girl,” “Friends,” and “Schitt’s Creek” being removed from Netflix in recent years, viewers have directed their attention to a new set of characters who have been around long before their time.
Gilmore Girls follows the story of mother Lorelai Gilmore and daughter Rory Gilmore as they navigate family dynamics, romantic relationships, academic achievements and career growth. The show takes place in Stars Hollow, a town that is located somewhere near New Haven and Hartford. Much of the show takes place in the fall and winter seasons creating a cozy atmosphere on the screen and lots of inspiration for autumn outfits and recipes.
With the fall season now in full swing, now is the perfect time to get cozy with a warm cup of coffee and start this show!
If you’re looking for more incentive to start this show, here are some familiar faces you can look forward to catching throughout the series! Small character spoilers ahead!
Sean Gunn is probably most recently recognized for his role as Kraglin in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Gunn makes his first appearance in the very first episode and sticks around for the duration of the series.
Milo Ventimiglia plays the “bad boy,” Jess Mariano, and makes his first appearance in season two. Ventimiglia is best known for his role as Jack Pearson in the series “This is Us.”
Matt Czuchry plays a later love interest named Logan Huntzberger, but is best known for his role in “The Resident” as Conrad Hawkins.
Melissa McCarthy has starred in several comedies since being cast as the chef Sookie St. James in “Gilmore Girls.” McCarthy starred in “Spy,” “Bridesmaids,” and “The Heat.”
Jared Padalecki plays Dean Forester, Rory’s first love interest. He is best known for his role as Sam Winchester in “Supernatural.”
Of course, the series is chock-full of guest appearances and popular characters the audience is bound to fall in love with.
Gilmore Girls has become one of my favorite comfort shows. My mom gave me the complete series on DVD when I was in middle school. Since then, I can confidently say I have seen the show in its entirety over 50 times. I constantly have it playing in the background. Growing up watching this show has allowed me to develop a lot of insights into the writing, the characters and the plot. I hope to share many of these opinions with you all in my “Gilmore Girls” article series.
